DAVID HOCKNEY British, b. 1937 TRISTAN KISSING ISOLDE Oil on canvas 10 by 8 inches A painted study executed by David Hockney in association with the Los Angeles Opera production of Richard Wagner’s tragic love story “Tristan und Isolde.” The painting shows the doomed lovers embracing with a kiss. A pair of similar designs were used to illustrate the poster advertising the performance as well as a live recording of the opera conducted by Christian Thielemann.
