$38,400
A Gibson SG Les Paul Standard electric guitar, serial number 47764, circa 1962. According to the 1999 Christie's catalog, Eric Clapton bought this guitar "...for nostalgic reasons... [wanting] ... to recreate the same experience as the psychedelic guitar ... he'd used with Cream. He thinks that this model is ...an incredible design... but found that he couldn't switch back into using it having got so accustomed to Fenders. Lee Dickson recalls that Clapton disliked the tremolo [vibrato] on this particular model." Heritage cherry finish, double cutaway, trapezoid inlays, two humbucking pickups, accompanied by a black hardshell case. PROVENANCE Lot 17, "Eric Clapton Guitars in Aid of The Crossroads Centre," Christie's, New York, sale number 9198, June 24, 1999 Categories: Eric Clapton
