A Polaroid Big Shot camera reportedly owned by Andy Warhol and gifted to talk show host and celebrity memorabilia collector Joe Franklin. Warhol famously admired Polaroid cameras, and the "Big Shot" model was said to be his favorite. Its single focal length construction forced the photographer to move back and forth to achieve focus, thus prompting a little dance that became known as the “Big Shot Shuffle.” During the 1970s and 1980s, Warhol took Polaroids of numerous celebrities, including rock icons John Lennon, Tina Turner, Mick Jagger, Debbie Harry, Diana Ross and others. The Polaroid photos were then often utilized to create silkscreens that were used to print many of Warhol’s most quintessential portraits. Includes a letter of authenticity signed by Joe Franklin explaining the provenance of the camera and its historical and personal significance. Accompanied by a copy of Chris Stein's book Negative : Me , Blondie , and the Advent of Punk (Rizzoli, 2014) as well as a copy of the Michael Horowitz monograph Menschen Bilder : Photos aus Österreich , 1966 - 1988 (ORAC, 1988). 10 by 6 1/2 by 6 1/4 inches Categories: Andy Warhol
