$18,750
A Starfleet medical tunic from the original Star Trek series (Desilu Productions, 1966-1969), likely worn by DeForest Kelleyas Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy. This shirt is consistent with the style of tunic worn by Science division personnel, specifically medical personnel, as indicated by the short sleeves. Made from blue fabric, an original Science division Starfleet insignia patch is sewn on the left chest area. Only one actor other than Kelley wore this style of medical tunic, and his appearances on the show were infrequent, increasing the possibility that this piece was indeed worn by Kelley as Dr. McCoy. These costume pieces are among the most rare in the marketplace – even Christie’s had none available to auction in the historic “40 Years of Star Trek: The Collection” event, which liquidated material from all of the franchise television series and movies. Images of the costume have been reviewed by collectors with confirmed authentic examples, and everything matches, from the fabric to the zipper style and manufacturer to the braids to the collars and placement of the patches, as does the stitching when turned inside out (i.e., details never seen on screen in the series). The three tunics offered in separate lots in this auction all come from the same consignor. The collection belonged to his father, who had them in his possession since the early 1970s, originally acquired from someone who worked on set. Accompanied by a copy of Star Trek : The Original Series .
