A kit commissioned for Starr by George Harrison. In 1968, Harrison traveled to Los Angles to produce an album for Jackie Lomax. While there he worked with drummer Hal Blaine who used a unique “Monster Drum Set.” Harrison was inspired to get one for Starr. Harrison, through Blaine, commissioned a set of the Blaemire fiberglass to be custom-made by Howey Oliver. Only five sets of these custom kits are known to exist. Upon receiving the he set of seven toms Ringo sent a thank you note to Blaine that read “Thanks Hal, for the tom tom tom tom tom toms!” The kit, circa 1969, consists of seven toms with shell sizes: 6” x 7 1/2", 8” x 7 1/2", 10” x 8”, 12” x 8”, 13” x 9 1/4", 14” x 10” and 16” by 10” The Ludwig drum hardware consists of chrome over steel rims, classic lugs, tension rods, and mounting brackets Accompanied by two rolling studio light tom stands featuring: three bottoms legs, locking caster wheels, adjustable height and swivel. The mounts use Ludwig consolettes that are secured on a curved custom made support bar. Categories: Ringo Starr
