Lot includes sketches, a photograph, and correspondence between de Maria, Jan van der Marck and Duchamp concerning the exhibition "Art by Telephone" based on an early Moholy-Nagy project where he dictated over the phone.
De Maria's proposal was to install a phone booth in the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art with instructions to visitors to answer if the phone rang. De Maria, the only one who had the number, would call periodically from New York with instructions. From the edition of approximately 2000 published by Letter Edged in Black Press; this example is one of the 100 signed works. Signed in marker to envelope.
