Ateliers Jean Prouve France, 1952 white pine, enameled aluminum, mahogany 72 w x 12½ d x 63½ h in (183 x 32 x 161 cm)
This shelving unit was originally designed for la Maison du Mexique, a dormitory at Cite Universitaire, Paris.
There were six groups chosen to design various parts of the campus; Perriand was assigned the cafeteria, the meeting rooms, and forty students' rooms. She collaborated with Sonia Delaunay who was in charge of the coloration. The furniture was fabricated at the Ateliers Jean Prouve, the only workshop with which Perriand would work.Literature:Jean Prouve, Seguin and Navarra, illustrated pg. 153Charlotte Perriand: An Art of Living, McLeod, illustrated ppg. 230-231Charlotte Perriand: A Life of Creation, Perriand, see ppg. 240-243 for discussion of the Cite Universitaire project more
