Ateliers Jean Prouve France, c.
1935 folded and enameled steel, plywood, brass 15½ w x 19 d x 29½ h in (39 x 48 x 75 cm)
This early design is the fourth variation of Prouve's one-piece frame chair, with a fin-shaped rear leg that developed into his iconic Standard series. The version from 1935 has a thin plywood seat that is deeply contoured and attached with clips in the rear and a pair of capped screws at the front. This design differs from the Standard chair of the 1950s with its shorter profile and pinched detail at the base of each leg, supporting a rubber foot. This rare, matched set has remained intact since they were created in the 1930s. literature: Jean Prouve Complete Works Vol. 2: 1934-1944, Sulzer, ppg. 20, 21, 39, 82, 83
