$42,000
USA, c.
1971 painted plaster, linen 12 w x 30 h in (30 x 76 cm)
The following six lots are from the collection of Seymour Surnow and Dennis Kyte, former owners of John Dickinson and Associates. Partnering with Dickinson from 1974-1979, Surnow and Kyte were part of the company during its most prolific period. The designs produced during the 1970s have come to define Dickinsons legacy as an experimental interior and furniture designer whose unique forms reference both classical and unconventional imagery.
Taking a formalist approach to design, Dickinson focused largely on the lines and contours of each work, purposefully de-emphasizing decoration by choosing a monochromatic color scheme. Unexpected detailing and tactile surfaces are the driving force of his oeuvre, articulating the allusive and sensual qualities of each design. more
