Gavina Italy, 1959 enameled steel 15½ w x 18 d x 30½ h in (39 x 46 x 77 cm)
With the intention of creating a chair for mass production, Zanuso and Sapper explored various materials and technology to arrive at this form.
While the chair is sturdy and thin, it is constructed from ten stamped sheets of metal and required hand-assembly, therefore mass production was never realized. provenance: Galleria Luisa Delle Piane, Milan literature: Italy: The New Domestic Landscape , Ambasz, pg. 42 I00 Masterpieces from the Vitra Design Museum Collection , von Vegesack, ppg. 44-45 Design: Marco Zanuso , Burkhardt, ppg. 92-97 Forme Nuove in Italia , Pica, pg. 62
