These custom cabinets were made for the Wepman family, an important client of George Nakashima.
Nakashima met David Wepman in 1947 when he commissioned furniture from the Nakashima Studio. In 1954, the Wepmans hired Nakashima as their architect for the design of their new home. Through these projects, a relationship evolved that would extend to their families and children. Nakashima named the Wepman occasional table after his friend.
Bookcases feature overhanging joined tops, sap-grain details and one free edge. Signed with client name to reverse and underside of each example: [Wepman].
