Chinese, Late 19th/Early 20th century. Four panel screen with double-sided decoration. Front with polcyrhome figural, architectural and still life depictions on black lacquered ground accented with gilt accent patterning on borders of recessed panels. Top and bottom medallions with still life imagery of fruit (lotus, prunus), boxes, vessels, and plants. Larger middle panels with figural decoration in an elabroate architectural and garden setting marked with plumed cranes, figures playing games, conversing, sitting on boats, walking, and reading. Back with handpainted outdoor scene depiction of birds perched in trress with flowering blossoms and pink peonies on red lacquered ground. Top and bottom with additional fruit and floral motif. Each panel measures approximately 71.5 inches x 17.75 inches.
