Charles and Ray Eames
Billy Wilder chaise
Herman Miller USA, 1968 / 1969 enameled aluminum, leather, plastic 76 w x 17 d x 29 h in (193 x 43 x 74 cm)
result: $7,500
Inspired by a remark from the Eames’ friend the director Billy Wilder, the chaise is designed for the perfect afternoon rest.
Due to the narrow frame, one would have to sleep with arms crossed. Inevitably ones arms would slip and cause the sleeper to awake, thus ending the catnap. The eggplant-colored base used on this example was introduced in 1969.
