Ateliers Jean Prouve France, c. 1954 bent steel, birch 56 w x 18 d x 30 h in (142 x 46 x 76 cm)
Prouve designed these benches for the headquarters of the Electricite de France in the mid-1950s. The interiors of this project are dominated by the rich blue color seen in this example. The development of the leg structure in this bench traces its roots to Prouve's reclining chair of 1930. Prouve used the scissor leg design in many of his chair, table and architectural designs throughout his career.
