Isamu Noguchi created numerous stone sculptures that are supported by pedestals made of repurposed architectural wood beams. Although not considered part of the actual artwork, these pedestals contribute to the poetry and balance of the stone while elevating the compositions toward the eye. The wood utilized in these pedestals display notches and natural decay from age, qualities embraced by Noguchi. It is not known if this pedestal ever supported a sculpture, but it was utilized as “Noguchi’s Table” in the David Heath Gallery in Atlanta. continue more
