Ferdinand Levillain(French, 1837-1905). Heavy gilt bronze tazza with central medallion depicting Neoclassical scene of a nude male figure holding a goblet up to an impressive winged eagle. The scene tells the story of Ganymedes and Zeus (indicated underneath) theme. According to Greek mythology, Ganymedes (a beautiful divine hero) was abducted by Zeus, in the form of an eagle, to serve as cup-bearer in Olympus. Tazza signed "F. Levillain" under mythological scene and dated 1865. Tazza with handles on sides with additional matching figural scenes. Ornate tazza raised on three lion's paw feet. Height 4.75", width across handles 19", diameter of circular dish at center 13.5".
