Dutch. First quarter 20th century. Oil on canvas panoramic farming scene signed lower right by the artist Borge Christoffer Nyrop (Danish, 1881 - 1948). Painting depicts older man seated on a crate, holding a hammer in his right hand, breaking stones, woman and Belgian draft horses harvesting hay in the background. Sticker on back written in Dutch, probably biography of the artist. Nyrop is best known for the fantastic sunlit farm scenes and detailed naturalist landscapes from the west coast at Jutland, often with working people. A Nyrop painting "Paris in the Spring" sold for $31,701 at Sotheby's, London, in 1998 (lot 235). Framed 34" x 45.5". Unframed 27.75" x 39.5".
