GRUEBY; Rare and large ship tile, Boston, MA, ca. 1915; Stamped GRUEBY BOSTON; 2" x 12" sq.; Note: The only tiles like this we have ever seen.; Provenance: Smith and Jones Auctions, Sudbury, MA, 2002. Previously in the 1914 home of Samuel Dennis Warren III, Rocky Hill Farm, Essex, MA. His father, Samuel Dennis Warren II, was a prominent attorney and founding patron of the Society of Arts and Crafts, Boston. The three tiles are closely related to the set of 18 tiles made for Aloha Landing in Newport in 1912, now in the collection of the Two Red Roses Foundation.
