VLADIMIR PROCHAZKA (b. 1947);Large cast glass sculpture, "Planetary Nebula," Czech Republic, 2009; Signed and dated; 25 1/2" x 25 1/2" x 5";Note: Born in 1947 in the Czech Republic, Vladimir Prochazka is a renowned artist of architectural glass and molten glass sculpture. He studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague and, not long after graduating, began creating glass sculptures and fountains for numerous public and private buildings in the Czech Republic. One of his best-known creations is the glass luminous bridges at the Czech House of Parliament, which have been declared a National Cultural Monument. All of his designs, be they fountains, glass ceilings, lighting fixtures, or sculptures, are united by a sense of grandeur balanced with his innovative use of traditional shapes and techniques. Lot 375 exemplifies his skill with cast glass. Prochazka deftly manipulates the medium and its form in such a way that the heavy monolith of solid glass appears to the viewer to be a weightless, graceful orb. Prochazka continues to live and work in the Czech Republic, and his creations have won both the gold (2004) and silver (2001) medals at The International Exhibition of Glass in Japan.
