Gabor F. Peterdi (Hungarian (active America), 1915-2001), "Orange and Yellow"-1954, oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right "Peterdi 54", verso with inscription "Peterdi 54". Playful abstract expressionist painting with gestural imagery, with repeating star forms (or asterisks) throughout. Framed approximately 17.125" x19.25". Unframed approximately 16" x 18". Provenance: Artist; acquired by private collection; acquired by descent to private collection; whereby acquired by present owner. Note: In the late 1940s and early 1950s Peterdi taught at The Brooklyn Museum, Hunter College and Yale University School of Art at Norfolk. It was during this period that Peterdi was exposed to the Abstract Expressionists, whose work had a profound effect on Peterdi's gestural style and imagery.
