Henry Ward Ranger (American, 1858-1916), "Connecticut Landscape"- 1900, oil on canvas, indistinctly signed and dated lower left. Pastoral landscape painting with loose, impressionistic rendering depicting a pond in the foreground that reflects a nearby group of trees; beyond the pond two field hands work near a stone fence that encircles a large cattle field; two cows can be seen at the far end of the stone enclosure; with cumulus clouds dotting blue sky overhead. Framed approximately 37" x 44.75". Unframed approximately 28.25" x 36.25". Note: alternate artist spellings include "Henry Ranger". Henry Ward Ranger is regarded as the leader of the Tonalist movement in America and was a central figure in the establishment of the Old Lyme, Connecticut art colony in 1899.
