Blade is pre-WWII (c 1930) and was made for Japanese Army issue to officers. The fittings, black lacquered scabbard, and shark skin hilt with brown cord wrapping were added at a Tokyo sword shop in 1949. The guard is antique and made of iron with a silver band around the edge, and was added at the same time as the other fittings. Total approximate length of 36-1/2" with guard width of 3". Marked "108308" to blade.
