James P. Butler oil on canvas modern landscape depiction; signed to bottom left "J. Butler 1921"; measures approximately 35-3/4" x 30-1/4" with ornate wooden frame and has a sight image of approximately 28-1/2" x 23"; in Very Good condition. An American painter, James (J.P.) Butler (1893-1976) resided in France in 1912 and from 1922 to 1924. He lived in New York City from 1917 to 1921. He was a member of the Society of Independent Artists and exhibited there from 1917 to 1924 as well as at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1912 and 1917.
