John Little oil on canvasboard Fauvist depiction of a Canadian urban (probably Montreal) landscape with children playing hockey on a frozen pond; signed to lower right "John Little"; measures approximately 18-1/2" x 22-1/4" with gilded frame and has a sight image of approximately 11-3/4" x 15-1/2"; in Very Good condition. Original framing done by Paul Victorius, which would date the piece pre-1968 as Paul Victorius framing partnered as "Freeman-Victorius" at that time. Painted on canvas matteboard with corrugated cardboard glued to the back, & cannot be removed without damaging the matteboard. John Geoffrey Caruthers Little (born 1928) is a Canadian artist. He primarily paints urban images of his home city of Montreal in oils, in the Fauvist style. After studying at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and with the Art Students League of New York (where he met Ray Bailley and helped to illustrate the Bruce Gentry comic strip), Little joined his family's architectural practice in 1949, working as a draftsman.
