French, middle of 19th century. "Brittany Fisherman". Oil on canvas painting depicting three male fisherman in a wooden boat with three long oars (one in water, two extended to sides) on a choppy tumultuous ocean with a group of three seagulls flying to the right side of the boat. Rain storm appears to be clearing as there is a small pocket of blue sky starting to break through the overcast clouds at top center. Signed lower left "P. Jules David" however monogrammed initials on boat in "LP" to the left of the downward facing oar. Initials could possibly be an indicator of the maker. The consignor has in their personal notes on the work, Louis Le Poittevin (French 1847-1909) as a possibility. This artist's name is also written on cards from the seller from whom they purchased the piece, Art Antic at Marche Malassis, Saint-Ouen, France. Verso of frame with Packers Camard sticker.
