RUSSIAN ENAMELED GILT SILVER PUNCH SET, MOSCOW, 1892. 88 Lev Oleks assayer. Effaced marks: Ovchinnikov and Imperial warrant. Bulbous punch bowl and 10 hook handled cups on stepped ball footed plateau. Intricate cloisonne in floral, scroll and geometric motifs on stippled ground, matching hook handled ladle. 139.48 OT. Bowl, 7" high, Plateau 15 1/2", ladle 7 1/2". Note: Established in 1853, the goldsmith firm Ovchinnikov employed 300 workmen by 1881. Devoted to manufacture of articles in the Russian National style, its enamelware won the firm first prizes in every important Russian exhibition. Awarded Imperial Warrant in 1883, Ovchinnikov was a supplier to Cartier between 1904 and 1906.
