ELIZABETH EATON BURTON (American, 1869-1937); Tooled suede album containing over fifty photographs of Gertrude McCall"s Santa Clara, CA camping expedition, ca. 1900; Provenance: Estate of Margaret Willcox, great niece of Gertrude and Jane McCall; Unsigned; 5 1/2" x 7"; Note: The album is inscribed, "Gertrude McCall camping out expedition on the Island of Santa Clara opposite Santa Barbara;" "with Margaret Keating [sister];" "Margaret and I went camping; I forget who the others are." Gertrude was Jane Byrd McCall Radcliffe-Whitehead"s sister. Before they founded Byrdcliffe, Jane and Ralph Radcliffe-Whitehead built "Arcady" in Santa Barbara near the studio of their friends Charles Frederick Eaton and Elizabeth Eaton Burton. The iris and fleur-de-lis were Whitehead symbols that were incorporated into Byrdcliffe Colony logos.
