AMERICAN COIN SILVER WATER PITCHER BY GORHAM, 1859. Highly ornate example abundantly decorated with deep raised and chased floral and neoclassical motifs, ram"s head crested handle with tendrils entwining the split terminus, ribbons of tobacco leaves encircle the base. Reserve with monogram "B". Pattern #220, 47.32 OT. 12 1/2" (above handle). (Note: A similar set of the same production year was purchased in 1861 by Mary Todd Lincoln for the White House. That set, pattern #30, is in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution, in "Gorham Silver" by C.H. Carpenter, plates 43 & 44.)"
