Made by Jacques-Nicholas Bellin; titled "Plan de la Nouvelle Orleans. Sur les Manuscrits du Depôt des Cartes de la Marine"; published by de Haye at L'Histoire Générale des Voyages de Prévost d'Exiles, the Hague, c.1757; measures approximately 7.7" x 11"; hand-colored; hand-laid paper has a beautiful, sharp impression; the precisely hand-colored image has tremendous detail; wide, clean margins for framing. This city plan illustrates the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana in great detail with buildings highlighted in red. An alphabetic key further identifies important public, governmental, and military facilities. Note that a water-filled moat ("Fossé plein d'eau") protected the Northern and Western approaches-today filled in and called Canal Street.
