This is the original, very decorative green cover edition of this muckraking classic novel of the Chicago stockyards, slaughterhouses, and meat packers. Upton Sinclair was forced to self publish this book because of his Socialist views and membership in that party. Although sued for libel, the public uproar forced President Theodore Roosevelt to send an investigative team to Chicago to determine the truth. The Commission's report resulted in new laws mandating Federal Government meat inspection.
