Attributed to the circle of Gideon Morgan (1751-1830) of Staunton, VA (MESDA Craftsman #45750). Walnut primary and southern yellow pine secondary, complex applied edge moldings, two-over-three drawer configuration, cock beaded drawers, wooden mortise and tenoned drawer stops placed across topside of rails and trough tenoned center stile, flanked by fluted quarter columns, and raised on applied bracket feet. Interior case construction matches construction techniques used by Gideon Morgan’s (and Circle of) known examples. Front case rails notched to the interior of the case and set into a groove. Chest retains an early, quite possibly original, patinated finish. Repairs have been made to drawers, rails, as well as replaced bracket feet. Original brass bail hardware was replaced by turned walnut knobs using original holes. 39-1/4 " height, 39-1/4 " width, 19-3/4 " deep.
