MOORCROFT; SHREVE; Eventide ginger jar with sterling silver Shreve lid, England, vase: 1918-26; Blue Moorcroft signature, stamped MOORCROFT MADE IN ENGLAND 769, lid stamped SHREVE & CO. STERLING 9810; Overall: 14 3/4" x 8 1/2", jar: 10" tall, lid: 12 1/2 OT; Note: The Shreve lid is exceptional in its scope and craftsmanship. While we cannot prove that it is original to the jar, the two are definitely from the same period: from their marks, the lid dates to 1918-19, and the vase to 1918-26. This lot comes with a letter from William Moorcroft"s son, W. John S. Moorcroft, explaining the date of the vase and the possible origins of the lid.
