Cherry primary and poplar secondaries, with a shell carved fall front lid, four band inlay cock beaded graduated drawers, flanked by inlaid corner columns, over flared Federal feet. Illegible inscription located on the backboards. Retains a beautifully, probably original, patinated finish. Repairs consistent with age and normal wear. Massey owned Ash Lawn Highland from January 18, 1867 to March 29, 1899. The estate remained in the family until January 24, 1930. On December 31, 1970 the estate was given to the College of William and Mary by the Late Jay W. Johns.
