969. Collection of 19 Vintage and Modern Wooden Playing Card Boxes, Deck Holders. Various origins and manufacturers, ca. 1920s – 90s. Single-collector grouping, predominantly wooden construction, and including examples with brass playing card fixtures, decorative inlays, hand-painted sides and lids, and felt and suede linings, for holding up to five decks. Specific examples include a finely polished hinged cherry box with tan enamel suit symbols affixed to the lid, lined with green felt and ribbon deck straps, with two sealed decks; a leatherette canasta box with colored playing card inlays; an early twentieth century hand-painted pine cribbage box; a ca. 1920s mahogany triple-deck case, the lid hand-decorated with suit symbols within a finial border; and others.
