Dante (Harry August Jansen). Important four page TLS signed by Dante. Dated Jan. 4, 1950. On four sheets of plain typing paper, Dante discusses in detail and at great length current and past show business conditions. In writing to the recipient, Eric [Mason], a hypnotist seeking advice and some form of management or backing from Dante, the magician expounds on hypnosis (“[it] can still carry the crown of Mysticism as well as good entertainment”), press and publicity, and finally mentions his “21 year” partnership with Howard Thurston which was “fulfilled to our mutual satisfaction.” A fascinating and important document. Wear at extremities. Sold with a later portrait of Dante. Signed in pencil, “Dante.”
