Hofzinser, Johan Nepomuk. “Double Ended” card owned by J.N. Hofzinser. Austria, ca. 1850. Specially printed for Hofzinser’s use, the face shows both the Queen of Spades and the Jack of Diamonds. Together with an envelope with the typed and signed statement: “The playing card in this envelope was owned and used by Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser, circa 1850. (signed) Robert Lund.” One of the most finished and innovative magicians of his generation, Hofzinser considered tricks with cards to be the “poetry” of magic. He designed and used many specially prepared cards, like this one. Robert Lund founded the American Museum of Magic in Marshall, Michigan, and gifted this card from its holdings to a close friend.
