713. Carved Wooden Trade Figure. Circa 1890. Carved wooden figure painted in polychrome over gesso. The hand above the figure’s head is lying flat and may have held a tray or box of cigars. A hole in the top of its head is present. These were typically used to pour oil to help keep the figure from drying out. Also possibly once part of a circus wagon. 48” tall. Visible wear; good.
