$1,000
Vase, Cone, Beans and Orange Trick. Maker unknown (likely Roterberg), ca. 1910. Nickel-plated vase 9 " high, wooden cone (also known as a "skittle" 2 " in diameter at its widest) and two shells, which allow the performer to perform an elaborate transposition effect between a quantity of dry beans, the wooden cone and an orange. Light wear as expected, but generally good condition. Scarce. Unlike more commonly encountered examples of this effect (a favorite of Leon Herrmann's), one of the shells in this example incorporates two spring-loaded traps in the shell which nests inside of the vase. These allow the trick to be performed without the china plate so often used as an adjunct to the rest of the props.
