Watch Mortar. Maker unknown (likely Roterberg), ca. 1920. Large, sturdy turned wooden mortar and pestle which allow the magician to apparently destroy a borrowed pocket watch, but instead effects a clever switch of the timepiece for a quantity of dummy parts and pieces. Pestle measures 5 ½" high and 4 ¼" at its widest point. An unobtrusive hole has been cut into the mortar and its gimmicked base; metal trap door of pestle is pitted and hinge broken (but easily repaired). Overall good condition. Scarce.
