Mechanical Conjurer's Table and Props. Maker unknown, ca. 1929. Impressive and mechanically intricate conjurer's center table constructed not only as a surface on which to perform, but as a secret mechanical aid to the magician using it. The center of the tabletop conceals a spring-loaded elevator which secretly, at the push of a hidden button, loads a tambourine with a large quantity of handkerchiefs. The table top also conceals two black art wells and the rear of the table a servante made of sturdy brass. The top itself has been outfitted with various interior compartments in which the legs of the table (all brightly chrome plated) as well as a handsome Jap Box, magic wand and two tambourines can be stowed, as well as the uprights that hold the tambourine in place during the production of the handkerchiefs. Draped in purple velvet with gold fringe and bearing the initial "M" in Old English script at the center of the drape. The entire outfit packs neatly in one large case. Two components surrounding the elevator trap resoldered; otherwise very good condition. A remarkable and impressive object.
