Cardini’s billiard ball tray. Circular brass tray with scalloped edge and engraved Asian design, used in Cardini’s act to catch the billiard balls after his manipulation sequence. 10” in diameter. Shows wear. This tray, held by Swan, was used to prove the solidity of the billiard balls Cardini manipulated. When the wooden balls fell on to the tray, they made a distinct sound, thus disproving the thought – however subtly – that the balls could collapse or nest together. They must have multiplied, vanished, and appeared by magic.
