How to Eat Fire. Manchester, n.d. (ca. 1900). Publisher's pictorial wraps bound in boards. Illustrated. Ex libris C.A. George Newmann. Paper brittle and split, reinforced with tape, poor condition. This curious folio-sized pulp publication was likely bound in boards by Newmann in an effort to preserve it. In addition to secrets of fire eating, washing ones hands in molten lead and other fire-related tricks, the booklet contains a cursory, illustrated explanation of the Automaton Chess Player. The rear wrap bears the mailing label of Ellis Stanyon. With: a curious single leaf titled Tricks with Fire by Edward Conran, also from the Newmann collection, bound in boards, explaining how to perform ten fire-related tricks. 12mo. Good condition.
