Jumping Card Box. Maker unknown, ca. 1870. Wooden houlette-type box easuring 4 x 3 " at its base. After a card has been selected, noted and returned to the pack, the cards are placed in this box. At the command of the magician, the selected card jumps out of the box. Bearing a typed note stating: "Jumping Card Box/50 Years Old/Prof. Henderson." Considerably worn and chipped but in working order. Professor Milton Henderson was a sailor during the American Civil War and served on the Union warship Monitor, one of the world's first ironclad ships. With: A rude wooden box, considerably worn and lacking its top and bottom. Affixed to one side of the box is a label that states, "Used by Professor Henderson in his Punch & Judy Show.
