[Houdini, Harry] Typed Letter from B. F. Keith’s Theatrical Enterprises to Harry Houdini. New York August 28, 1903. On one 4to page of B. F. Keith’s International Circuit letterhead, the writer explains to Houdini why he is unable to offer him more than $500 per week, owing primarily to the lack of cooperation from various police departments in assisting Houdini in the tests (challenges) necessary to publicize his act, and further, that he would not be a stand alone act, but part of a four or five act show (vaudeville). Houdini and B. F. Keith’s did come to terms, as he was a featured act in Keith’s circuit for many years thereafter. Left margin damage from scrapbook mounting and removal not affecting contents. Good.
