Japanese, Meiji Period (1868-1912). A large bronze jardiniere raised on three feet with fu lion masks at knees, the body with high relief decoration on tondo of birds on flowering branches and in flight, the mouth with a wide band of archaic style animals to a ground of small concentric geometric shapes below a saucer rim. Underside with removable round plate, likely a later adaptation, marked to center with five calligraphic marks in relief within a floral rectangular cartouche. Approximate height 11.5", diameter 11.875".
