English, 20th century. Matched pair of George II style carved mahogany open armchairs, after the original designed by Giles Grendey (English, 1693–1780), each with a foliate detailed crest rail above a reticulated stylized shell form splat flanked by conforming stiles and outset arm with acanthus carved scrolled hands, on a blue leather covered trapezoidal seat having decorative nailhead trim and raised on front cabriole legs with acanthus hips ending in front claw and ball feet. Approximate height 40.25", width 27" (scrolled hand to hand), seat depth 17", seat height 17.5".
