Likely Chinese, 20th century. A carved bone rectangular compass with hinged lid allover with etched decoration similar to that found on scrimshaw, the cover with a depiction of the seamen aboard a ship with captain's wheel, sail, and rigging to background. The hinged lid opens to reveal a sun dial clock to underside of lid and a recessed compass to interior. Closed measuring approximately 3.5" x 2.625" x 1".
