Indonesian, 19th century. A hand carved teak Jodang or wedding chest from Java or Madura Island, having a carved removable center piece over two slanted sides that lift to reveal open storage on turned and block legs. The whole with floral carving on all sides. Approximate height 32.75", width 38.3", depth 19.75". Note: Known in Java as 'Jodang', this chest was originally used to store and transport the brides clothing and jewelry in a wedding procession.
