Norwegian, circa 1828. A large carved and painted wood ceremonial twin handled drinking bowl, kasa or ale bowl, dug out and carved from one solid piece of wood, the handles modeled as horse heads rising up from shield shaped panel, inscribed around the rim, dated 1828 and initialed M. W. The interior of bowl with single painted profile of a fish. Approximate height 8.75", width 16.25" (head to head), depth 9.12". Provenance: From the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
