Boston William & Mary painted armchair, ca. 1730 , with a carved crest and banister back, above a rush seat and baluster and block turned legs joined by stretchers, retaining an exceptional paint history with an old red over an earlier red and the original black surface. A side chair of similar form is illustrated in Forman, American Seating Furniture, 1630-1730 , plate 67.
